Please see this very informative article by BoatUS on the potential increase of Ethanol in gasoline. If this passes, we could see private boat owners as well as the entire marine industry suffering mechanical and economic consequences.

Greetings to all our HIYC Members and your families.
I was contacted today by PCYC Commodore Gaddis regarding the ability for all area Yacht clubs to order curbside delivery from their website. Please see John's note below for specifics.
From John Gaddis:
All,
At last nights board meeting, the PCYC Board unanimously voted to open our "TO GO" Menu to all area yacht clubs.
All persons that wanted to purchase a meal would need to do is go to the PCYC website (www.pcyc.org), pick the meals they would like, and call the Club at (805) 985-7292. They should also let us know their club affiliation. We accept all major credit cards and offer curbside pickup from any parking spot.
Wishing you and your families stay safe & well.
John W, Gaddis - Commodore
Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club
I also want to let everyone know that our very own Waterside Restaurant has a menu available for take out and delivery that is now posted on their website. You can order individual, for two, or for a family! www.watersidechannelislands.com
While I completely understand the social limits and financial constraints we currently face, I can think of no better way to support our local businesses and restaurants. If you can support them, please do!
There are other restaurants in the area that are offering take out and home delivery. Please share that information with friends and neighbors in our colaborative effort to keep our community businesses in operation.
Have a great Day and remember: Together we can make a difference!

Ahoy Mates,
Attached is the information on the New California Boater Card that all operators of any motor driven craft will need. This includes all power boats, sailing vessels with motors, dingy with motors, all electric boats, etc.
This new law is being phased in over time and by age. See the link and/or attachment to check ages that are now required to have a license. In 2025, all boaters regardless of age will be mandated to have the license.
The link and attachment below tells you how to obtain your license and where to sign up for classes to take your test.

Imagine a beautiful day at sea, you are less than a mile off Santa Cruz island. Suddenly your engine power cuts out and it won't start back up. You begin to realize the wind is blowing you towards a lee shore. Will your skills, anchor and ground tackle keep you from hitting the rocks or beach? Do you know how to properly anchor for a storm? If you run a power or sailboat, this comprehensive video merely scratches the surface on modern boat anchors, resetting ability and holding power. Make sure you have the correct anchor for your boat, one that doesn't have known resetting issues in harsh conditions. The right anchor can save your boat, and possibly your life.

Oxnard Installs Aerators in Channel Islands Harbor
As part of Oxnard’s ongoing response to the recent water issues at the Channel Islands Harbor, six aerators were installed on the ocean floor at the northeast corner of the Seabridge Public Marina on July 26. The aerators will be continuously releasing compressed air into the area. From the shore, bubbles can be seen on the surface of the water in the location where the aerators have been placed, but there is no impact to the public and it is completely safe to swim and drive a boat over the water. In other areas nationwide, aerators have been successfully used to improve circulation and increase dissolved oxygen levels; they were installed in Seabridge as part of a pilot program to better understand the impact aerators will have in those back basin areas where dissolved oxygen levels have been the lowest. The city is continuing to regularly sample the Harbor and dissolved oxygen levels have continued to improve. The city also collected bacteria samples again on July 23 and those results confirmed the water is not hazardous to human health.
Residents are encouraged to report any odor or discoloration in the Harbor waters by calling 805-797-7958.
Trying to keep us all informed.

COAST GUARD AUXILIARY BOATING AND SEAMANSHIP
July 8, 2018
Ahoy Mates,
The US Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering a 2 day boater Boating Skills and Seamanship Course that meets the new requirement to obtain a Boater Card.
The course is presented by Lt. Commander Michael Bick. Additionally, The Commander is available to do Boat Inspections at your dock. I just had my boat inspected by Michael and received a decal so you wont necessarily be boarded when in the channel or at sea.
Our Vice Commodore was just boarded in the Harbor by the Coast Guard doing boat inspections. You can be boarded at any time by the USCG. VC passed with flying colors and he has pictures with the CG Crew to prove it. The USCG can issue citations for any violations or notice of corrections when you are boarded. The Auxiliary CG does not issue citations. If you do not pass you are advised as to what corrections you need to make and then you can have a re-inspection. They are looking for safety issues like life preservers, fire extinguishers, lighting, trash disposal, and sanitation disposal. All information that every boater should know.
Please see the PDF flier below. This is a worthwhile class for any boater as it teaches you the basics including the rules of the nautical road.
Be a safe boater. See ya on the water,

Kidde Fire Extinguisher Recall
You may already be aware as this issue has been well publicized for several months, but check your fire extinguishers (boat, car, plane or home). Many Kidde fire extinguishers were recalled for not working. This is a problem when you need it! To check 1) Make sure you have a Kidde Fire extinguisher. 2) Go on the Kidde.com website and compare the serial number and make. If it is ok, you are all done. If it is one of the recalled fire extinguishers, they will send you a replacement free of charge. They will also send you a return box and UPS pre-paid label. It is very easy, but VERY IMPORTANT!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
California Boater Card
Now in Effect As of January 1st, California's mandatory boating safety education law went into effect for persons 20 years older or younger. If you are 20 or younger and operate any type of motorized vessel on California waterways (including powered sailboats/paddlecraft), you are required to pass an approved boating safety examination and carry a lifetime California Boater Card.
Starting January 1st 2019, the age requirement will apply to boaters 25 years old or younger, and will increase yearly after that until 2025 when everyone will have to have the card regardless of age. There are a few exceptions, but since there is a potential fine for the boater not complying (and his/her parents or guardian), we highly recommend visiting the California Boater Card official website to review the specific requirements.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vessel Inspections
An annual inspection by either the Coast Guard Auxiliary or the US Power Squadron is a great tool! Although it is not required, it gives you information about compliance of your vessel. Even a regular boater sometimes overlooks items such as Flares (the do expire!) and updated placard requirements and of course you never know your navigation lights are out, until you need them! The inspections are free and if there is a deficiency, there is no penalty whereas if stopped by the Coast Guard a deficiency can result in a ticket! Also, while not a 100% guarantee, but if you have a current sticker on your windshield, your chances of being stopped by Coast Guard drop greatly. This is a good time of the year to get this done.
